The Bury 1964

Winter training starts on December 5th at Pilgrim Sports Hall, for details refer to the Coaching Page

Welcome

Bedford Cricket Club is a rapidly expanding and thriving cricket club with good facilities and a friendly family atmosphere. A new company was formed in 2006 to take over from Bedford Town Cricket Club, which was first established in the 1930’s, and ceased all cricket at the end of the 2005 season. A number of parent volunteers have worked tirelessly to regenerate and re-establish the club as a prominent and leading club in the community. The new management committee already has significant achievements to it’s credit and has ambitious plans for the future both in terms of enhancing the facilities and increasing the membership.

The club consists of teams for U10, U12, U14, U16 and an adult side. We achieved success with the U10 side in 2006 and both the U10 and U12 sides in 2007 by winning the Bedfordshire County title.

History

Bedford Cricket Club Limited was incorporated as a company on 3 May 2006 and has in the first few months of incorporation succeeding in securing the transfer of the leasehold interest in the grounds and pavilion from the former Bedford Town Cricket Club which had ceased operating in March 2006. The future of cricket at Goldington Bury has been secured for the community, a ground where cricket has been played in the town since the 1930s. Without the generous support of a number of parent volunteers giving their time and effort in copious quantities cricket could have been lost forever in the town as a community facility. The future of cricket will depend on the continuing efforts of these members and anyone interested in helping and filling vacancies on the committee should please contact the club.

We have been assisted in our efforts by some generous donations from local businesses and are actively seeking further sponsorship and support. We are delighted to announce that the company has been registered as a charity in October 2006. It is hoped that the company’s charitable status will facilitate further fundraising events and sponsorship. We run a friendly family oriented club with training sessions open to all the family with barbecues each week throughout the season. New members are welcome to visit and join in every week.

In the 2006 season we ran only junior teams but in 2007 we had two adult teams and are now seeking to establish an all girls team to encourage full participation in cricket. For details of our training schedules and how to join please see the Training and Contact menus on our navigation bar.
